Announcing The OpenFall Series

Hi everyone, like me you have all probably been in quarantine for the last three months, and also like me you have probably found things to do with your free time. I for one have been doing a lot of Titanfall 2 with a side of self-improvement. Anyway as anyone who has played Titanfall knows, that game is awesome, and me being the game programmer that I am I wanted to try to make some of the mechanics my self, but in VR. So that is why this article is named the way it is. For the next few are to do a tutorial series where we build a VR Titanfall clone in Unity. And this time there is a bonus, the code will be available in a public GitHub. (https://github.com/WireWhiz/OpenFall)

Over the course of this series, I hope to cover movement, guns, titans, and networking. For this, we are going to try to use the 2019 LTS release of unity and learn the new input, XR, and DOTS system. By the end we should have a fully functional multiplayer game, I might even be convinced to rent a dedicated server or two.

Also for once I plan to consistently publish on a specific day, so look for a new article every Friday.

Hope you are all doing well and I’ll see you on the frontier!

(PS: Anyone interested in making a TF2 Network?)

    1. I would like to focus all my energy on one project for now, I might do a follow up on that later but for now I don’t have anything planned.
